Quarantine Photography April, 2020

Tree Reflection

Trout Lily

Beech Leaves

Storm Clouds

Morning Fog

One of our DIL's spent several weeks during April at the cabin  in Potter County while "working from home" for her employer. I was fortunate to travel to visit her for two weekends.  During all my years of visits, I had never spent that much time at the cabin in April before.  The weather was mixed and quite cold.   Being outside by myself or with her was fabulous!!

Jim and I started our quarantine for the Covid-19 pandemic on March 16, 2020.  One room in our house was given a new purpose as Jim's office.  Otherwise, it was life "somewhat" normal with us together 24-7.  I immediately understood how lucky and grateful we are to have our home and no lack of electricity, food, heat, water, etc. during this time.  Concern for our health and those we love and treasure, was, and continues to be, a constant.

Daily routines for this new period in our lives quickly formed.  Jim was at his desk with laptop open before 9 am.  I joined him for lunch hour and we usually watched the news and Cuomo reports.  I worked out a new routine around our house after working part-time for almost six years.  No magnifying glass needed - there was lots to be done!  There still is :)  Yard work, too, announced itself as spring began.  Jim enjoys making dinner most nights and does the shopping.  Our boys keep in touch many times during the week.

During our first few weeks of quarantine in March, the weather was mixed.  We had a lot of rain, but also some stunning clear days and nights.  I was pleased to capture the images above while wandering around the yard for some fresh air or having brought in early spring flowers to enjoy.

Please comment or send your thoughts about your quarantine experience to me at rafzta@aol.com.  I would love to communicate with you privately or include your thoughts in my next Blog post soon.

Photograph of the Week

Tree Reflection

I didn't go very far from home for this shot.  Actually, it is my birdbath right on the deck that once again offered an interesting scene for me to capture.  In this abstract photograph, I found most of my favorite things - water, trees, leaves, reflections and a sense of wonder.

Let me know if I can photograph some of your favorite things.

Maine 2011 Evening Light

Sunset

Yellow Sky

Self Portrait Among the Stones
"Red sky at night...." truly foretold the wonderful weather we had during my visit to Harpswell.  The evening light was beautiful, but disappeared quickly as we traipsed between islands for a last night shoot.  More shots in the flickr photostream.

Potter County 2011 Down Creek

Young Buck

Grasses

Creek Jewels Sunlit

White Trees

Wildflower
Mid-August morning light in Potter County is hypnotizing to me - I have to be out in it!  On this particular morning, I put on my water shoes and jeans and traipsed into the First Fork of the Sinnemahoning Creek to catch some shots.  I encountered young bucks, creek jewels and lots of reflections.  The creek came up to my mid-thigh at points - chilling, yet refreshing.  More shots in the flickr photostream.

Maine 2011 Fog Bank

One morning in Maine, I woke to a new photography experience out in the bay.  A fog bank had rolled in over a calm sea.  The light was incredible!  More shots in the flickr photostream.

Squaw Run Creek July, 2011

Creek Wall

Driftwood

Reflecting Pool

Yesterday, I took an afternoon walk in the Squaw Run Creek.  It was beautiful and very cooling!  I saw two snakes, many minnows and some insects.  The Creek's shape and depth changes seasonally.  More photos in the flickr photostream.

Mayflies at the Plaza

Two mayflies reflected in a store window at the plaza.  Living in the river most of their lives, fish love these morsels of insect delight!  They have to be quick though, mayflies only live for a few hours once they fly.

Silos

Midwest Farmland

Columbus Circle Reflecting Pool

Spa Stairway

Earlier today, I met with Ellen Neuberg at Gallerie Chiz to drop off some new pieces.  The above images represent the Iowa and New York City series now there as matted prints.  I also dropped off 50 note cards and three framed prints from the Off-Season series.
Please check them out when attending the First Friday festivities on Ellsworth Avenue, or, whenever you are out and about in that area.  The gallery is eclectic and exciting with lots of Pittsburgh artists represented.  The website is http://www.galleriechiz.com/.

Foggy Morning September, 2010

Fog Panorama

Morning Headlines

After a light rain, this morning brought the scent of wet leaves and a wonderful layer of fog in the area. I headed out with the Hasselblad and my Lumix to catch some scenes. I hope we can all enjoy the new cool temperatures and moist air for a while before winter returns! More in flickr photostream.
