Butterfly and Chihuly

During the first week in June, I visited Columbus, OH. One morning we spent two wonderful hours touring the Franklin Park Conservatory (www.fpconservatory.org). One of the rooms was ablaze with butterflies!

Foggy Day

Fountain with Weed

Up River

A couple of weeks ago, I ventured out with my camera at 7 am to capture some fog shots. My first stop was the Trillium Trail and Squaw Run Creek area of Fox Chapel. The second stop was Squaw Valley Park in O'Hara. The small lake there is beautiful with a fountain and many water plants. My last stop was on the Allegheny River. The density of the fog on the river softened the road noises as the mist drifted across the water. The water fowl were heard, but not seen except for the hawk. More shots in the flickr photostream.

Lawrenceville Blue Things

Yesterday, I took a walk around a small bit of the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. The flowers in people's yards and along the alleys blew me away! I also enjoyed getting some new streetscapes and adding to my blue things collection. More in the flickr photostream.

Farmers Markets

Hot Peppers

This morning's Post-Gazette had an up-to-date listing for this season's farmers markets. I am looking forward to vine ripened tomatoes with fresh basil and mozzarella and freshly grilled corn dripping with butter! Hmmmm - better kick up my jogging routine!! More shots in the flickr photostream.

Wild Weather

Flailing Trees

Right now there seems to be a lot of wild weather around the country. Tonight we had several warnings and my son made sure all of the lanterns were ready for action if needed. This reminded me of a recent experience.

Earlier this month I visited a friend outside of Columbus, Ohio. On the first night of the visit we received a tornado warning and much wailing of sirens. I caught a few pictures of the scene outside before being ushered to the basement to sit it out in safety. We didn't sustain any damage and had the most beautiful weather the following day! Pettengill Farm

Meadow Chairs

In June, 2005, while visiting my cousins in Maine, I had the opportunity to photograph interior portions of Pettengill Farm. Summer always brings me happy memories and thoughts of Maine, so I thought I would share this series now.

Pettengill Farm, a 19th century salt-water farm on the estuary of the Harraseeket River, is owned by Freeport Historical Society (http://freeporthistoricalsociety.org/). It includes a saltbox house (ca. 1810) on 140 acres of fields, woods, antique apple orchards and salt marsh. Most interesting are the etchings (sgraffitti) found on the plaster walls in the upper chambers of ships, sea monsters, longboats and animals. The farmhouse remains without plumbing, central heat and electricity and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Millie Pettengill was its last resident and lived in the house until 1970. In addition to the website, Millie has a Facebook page which carries up-to-date information about events at the Farm. Fashion News

Fashion News

Had an interesting shopping trip last October on Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside. The retro clothing was fun, but why are the mannequins naked or dressed suggestively? I know they are inanimate objects, but if they were male mannequins, would they be naked or outfitted with a thong? Just asking!! More shots in the flickr photostream.
