Last month I visited my cousins in Maine.  I got to explore some new areas with a photographer friend, but some of the best scenes are right before your eyes!  I never tire of photographing this incredible view.

Maine Trip

It has been ages since I blogged!

Earlier this month I had a wonderful trip to Maine with my son, Philip.  We visited many beloved relatives and friends, saw some lovely sights and enjoyed being refreshed by the loving environment and salt air!

Oh, and we took pictures  : )  I am enclosing some panos and other faves.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Golden Hour

Paddler

Sunset on Waves

Traps and Buoys

Cormorant
In this week's Digital Photography School newsletter, newsletter@digital-photography-school.com, I read an article about the Golden Hour for taking photographs.  This is described as early in the morning and in the evening; not what color the light is.  But, I instantly thought of my photographs of sunsets in both Florida and Maine.  Not only were they taken in the evening, they turned out to have golden light as well.  More in the flickr photostream.

Maine 2011 Sailing

It was a lot of fun sailing with the Sailing Divas while in Harpswell.  I joined a threesome of learning sailors in an Ensign captained by my cousin, Beth.  The Divas venture out twice a week during the summer to learn the ropes, so to speak, and have a terrific time.  I was made an honorary member of the group and will be sporting one of their very fashionable hats in the not too distant future :)  More shots in the flickr photostream.

Maine 2011 Evening Light

Sunset

Yellow Sky

Self Portrait Among the Stones
"Red sky at night...." truly foretold the wonderful weather we had during my visit to Harpswell.  The evening light was beautiful, but disappeared quickly as we traipsed between islands for a last night shoot.  More shots in the flickr photostream.

I came home from Maine one week ago.  What a fun trip!  My cousin, Beth, took Bonnie and me on a boat trip around the bay.  The weather was superb; allowing coastal Maine to show off at its best!  More pictures in the flickr photostream.

Pettengill Farm

Meadow Chairs

In June, 2005, while visiting my cousins in Maine, I had the opportunity to photograph interior portions of Pettengill Farm. Summer always brings me happy memories and thoughts of Maine, so I thought I would share this series now.

Pettengill Farm, a 19th century salt-water farm on the estuary of the Harraseeket River, is owned by Freeport Historical Society (http://freeporthistoricalsociety.org/). It includes a saltbox house (ca. 1810) on 140 acres of fields, woods, antique apple orchards and salt marsh. Most interesting are the etchings (sgraffitti) found on the plaster walls in the upper chambers of ships, sea monsters, longboats and animals. The farmhouse remains without plumbing, central heat and electricity and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Millie Pettengill was its last resident and lived in the house until 1970. In addition to the website, Millie has a Facebook page which carries up-to-date information about events at the Farm. Image of the Day

Single File

With the heavy snowfall across the Northeast this winter, snowbound residents have worried about their ability to get out and about in cars and other vehicles. As one of the snowbound, it had been easy for me to forget about the mobility of other creatures until I came upon these cattle in Maine. It was an interesting scene to come upon. About 20 cattle were lined up on a narrow path which wound around a field where the snow was two feet deep. Somehow they managed to stay afloat within this narrow barrier. More shots of this scene in the flickr photostream.
