Winter Solstice

It was time to change the introductory picture with the change in the season.
Always an interesting day, this solstice stuff.
We now start to have longer light and before we know it,
we will be spring like! :)
Not soon enough for some folks, I am sure.
But our earth friends are resting and we can, too.

Allegheny River and Aspinwall Alleys

Had a great time with my high school friend Jackie Bruno Carden visiting the 13th Street Launch in Sharpsburg and walking around some Aspinwall alleys.

I read yesterday that the number of seagulls on our rivers this winter has increased due to the freezing of the Great Lakes.  I love seeing and hearing them as they remind me of being by the seashore.

The alleys are always fun to walk and shoot.  I am always spotting new details.

One of my favorite seasons for photography is back!  Actually, all four seasons are my favorites, but there is nothing like snow for black and white images.

I wish my followers, friends and all Blog visitors a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Light Snow on the Trail

Cairn and Me

Creek Jewels

Squaw Run

This week in Pittsburgh, we had a lovely, light snow fall.  At the urging of my son, Philip, I hurried over to the Trillium Trail to catch the glow of ice on branches and the snow on paths and ground.  More in the flickr photostream.

Cairn Update

Cairn, Squaw Run Creek

Cairn 2, Squaw Run Creek
With the light dusting of snow we got this week, I ventured over to the Trillium Trail to see what the Cairn collection looked like in its winter dress.  Not bad, I would say!  I loved the icy surface of the creek as well.  More pictures in the flickr photostream.

Sunbath

Ice Shadows

Yesterday I visited the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. It was kind of me and the young mothers with strollers, but we were all enjoying getting out on the fourth sunny day in a row after a long period of snow and gray. Not too many animals were outside, but the environment was conducive to shooting and walking. More of the series in the flickr photostream.
Tomorrow I will post the pictures from today's walk in the Alleys of Aspinwall on this fifth sunny day in a row.

Single File

With the heavy snowfall across the Northeast this winter, snowbound residents have worried about their ability to get out and about in cars and other vehicles. As one of the snowbound, it had been easy for me to forget about the mobility of other creatures until I came upon these cattle in Maine. It was an interesting scene to come upon. About 20 cattle were lined up on a narrow path which wound around a field where the snow was two feet deep. Somehow they managed to stay afloat within this narrow barrier. More shots of this scene in the flickr photostream.
