Then and Now - Mellon Park

Mellon Park 1980's

Mellon Park was one of my first shoots back in the 1980's when I received my first SLR as a hand me down from my father.  Kodak Tri-X was always loaded and I used my meter and played with all of my dials.

Now we jump to last weekend in 2014.  A beautiful afternoon with a rejuvenated and beautiful Mellon Park!  My DSLR has no film and I haven't taken it off Auto since I bought it.  My teachers and photo friends are cringing, no doubt.  In this new summer season, I pledge to learn again the photography eye of my youthful enthusiasm.

Pittsburgh Pride makes Pittsburgher proud!!

My Thoughts Exactly

Umbrella with Tu-Tu

Shakin' It

Cop Masquerade

The Pittsburgh Pride parade was a real celebration!  It lasted for an hour with colorful displays of happiness and courage throughout.  My photographs were awful.  I was standing in the shade near the Macy's clock with the sunny side of the street as my background.  (That is why three of the above four have a glow filter on them.)  But, I was standing beside the most mesmerizing group, two mothers and their 5-week old baby who was the main attraction for many of the parade participants.   The mothers and baby were festooned in rainbow colors and received the hoops and hollers from one and all as they marched by.  The penguin was delighted to hold the infant as photographs were snapped.

Another group behind me had a cheerleader who called out to every group as they passed.  The spectators near by, including myself, joined in his shouts and clapping to the the parade participants delight!

Be brave, be happy and be proud!

River Walk June, 2014

Beach Iris

Duck Egg

Beach Gear

Fire Kindling

Yesterday I took my annual spring walk along the Allegheny River.  The requisite afternoon fishermen and lunching couples were there enjoying the beautiful weather with me.

"Duck Egg" was a total surprise to me.  I scared off a mallard couple and found this where they had been standing by the river's edge.  There was no nest nearby, yet there was a similar egg about 3 feet away.  Has anyone else experienced this with mallards?

"Fire Kindling" is time appropriate as last days abound and graduation parties are heard from afar.  It reminded me of the childhood ditty sung on the bus on the last day of the elementary school year, "No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers' dirty looks!"  (Please, no offense to my teacher friends.)  But, it also has traces of, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it" and Fahrenheit 451.
