Thanksgiving Weekend in Ohio

Bright Leaf

Shed

Vista

Thanksgiving in Ohio is always a wonderful family time, but it is fun to get out for a rural shoot, too. This year we had every weather type possible: rain on Thursday, sun on Friday and snow flurries on Saturday. Fortunately, it was Friday that was captured on film! More in the flickr photostream.

Grilling in the Leaves

When I opened the grill tonight, a mouse jumped out of a nest of leaves! It escaped, so I lit the grill. While it warmed up, it smelled just like the leaf burning piles of my youth . It reminded me of fall on West Waldheim Road during the 50's. Sigh!! I shot the photos above and on the flickr photostream as I grilled chicken breasts for this evening's dinner. A beautiful fall evening over the ravine.

The Allegheny River Walk

River Goddess

Butler Street

Last week I took a walk along the Allegheny River in Sharpsburg. It was a beautiful early fall morning. The trees on the opposite mountain were just beginning to change and many summer wildflowers were still in bloom. More images in the flickr photostream.

The Sketchbook Project

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

My friend, Kitty Spangler, urged me to join her in The Sketchbook Project. It is not just for artists! Anyone can join by signing up for a sketchbook, choosing a theme, paying the fee and completing the project. The sketchbooks will be exhibited in galleries around the country and then housed permanently at The Brooklyn Art Library where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

Sign up by October 31, 2010 and then work and submit your sketchbook by January 15, 2011. The tour begins in March, 2011. Hope you will join us!

Foggy Morning September, 2010

Fog Panorama

Morning Headlines

After a light rain, this morning brought the scent of wet leaves and a wonderful layer of fog in the area. I headed out with the Hasselblad and my Lumix to catch some scenes. I hope we can all enjoy the new cool temperatures and moist air for a while before winter returns! More in flickr photostream.

Hasselblad Adventures!

Sunset Lace

Ironwoods

Yesterday, I pulled out the 'Big Guy', my Hasselblad 503cw. I haven't used it in a while, so I popped in some new film and went to the paths at Beechwood to shoot some nature. What a transition it was metering, focusing and winding after years of digital!! I plan on getting used to it again, however, and learning some photography basics. More Hasselblad pictures in the flickr photostream.

Car Graveyard

Grave Plot

Bouquet

Planter

The second stop on Dan's and my adventure in Rogers, OH was a car graveyard. The beautiful wild flowers and lovely day softened the effect of the airbags employed, broken windshields and bald tires. As I shot, I worried and wondered about the drivers who had had these accidents and their passengers. I hoped and prayed that they had not only survived, but had flourished since their incident. I hope when Dan and I pass that way again, the graveyard will not be more crowded. More in flickr photostream.

Barn Side Sermon

Barn Side Sermon

Bottle

Barn Door

A couple weeks ago my friend, Dan, and I went to Rogers, Ohio to visit the Friday Flea Market. We stopped along the way for some photo shoots. The Bowers' Market with their road side sermon was one of many highlights of the day. Dan talked with Mrs. Bowers as I photographed. We tasted and bought some of their yellow watermelons, sprinkled with glitter to deter the crows while ripening. Very sparkly! More in the flickr photostream.

Potter County Summer Trip

Three Blind Mice

Lichen Action Figure

Stump

The eastern coast hot spell was evident while we were in Potter County, PA. It was hot, hot, hot! I never thought I would be glad we got an air conditioner for the cabin, but I was. Enough on the the weather..... the birds were quiet, there were very few bugs and it was great to read on the porch, take pictures and look for heart rocks in the creek. And yes, I spent some time removing unwanted residents. More in flickr photostream.

New York Street Scenes

Breaking Through

Napping

Receptacle

Shelter

Window Dressing

Walking around NYC is a special treat for me. I can't take everything in fast enough! The photographs in this series are just a fraction of what I saw during my visit. Constant photographing would have caused tripping, bad behavior and injury to me and the passers-by! More in the flickr photostream.

New York Nights

Lex Av

Deli Stop

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Jim took me to New York City. Our major destination was MOMA, which was exhibiting Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography.
We traveled by MegaBus and stayed on E 56th Street, between Park and Lexington. Most everything was within walking distance for us. Over the next few days, I will be posting the photography I did during that fun four-day stay. I love New York! More in the flickr photostream.

Yesterday, I had a fun time with Sandy and her friends at North Park. I met John and Alan and we spotted heron, deer, butterflies and hotties. We melted during our five mile walk, but were rewarded at the end with snow cones! More in the flickr photostream.
